What is the Spartan Trifecta?

Updated March 17, 2020: The 2020 Trifecta Year has been extended through the end of 2020. So all races from November 4th, 2019 - December 31, 2020 will count towards the 2020 Trifecta.

The Spartan Trifecta is a badge of honor, earned by pushing your mind, body, and spirit to achieve greatness. To become a member of the Trifecta Tribe, one must complete one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super, and Beast. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single trifecta year, however only one lap per day, per event will count.

Transition Period: With the change of the Trifecta calendar, there will be a transition period, occurring from November 4th, 2019 until December 31st, 2019. Any races occurring in this time period can be applied to both a 2019 Trifecta AND a 2020 Trifecta. Please click here for information regarding the transition period and Trifecta medals.

A Spartan Stadion race will count as a Sprint towards the Spartan Trifecta.

A Spartan Ultra race will count as a Beast towards the Spartan Trifecta. Please note, the entire Ultra course must be completed in order for it to count. Only completing half will not count as a Beast towards your Trifecta. Completion of the Ultra will count as 1 Beast towards your Trifecta.

City Events, Hurricane Heats, Agoge, or Spartan Trail events do NOT count towards the Spartan Trifecta. However, the Hurricane Heats and Agoge can be applied towards the Spartan Delta.

You can complete the races in any order, the Sprint does not have to be completed first.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Transition Period & Medals/Wedges

Anyone earning a multi-Trifecta for 2020 during the transition period (November 4th, 2019 - November 7th, 2020), must wait until 2020 to receive their separate Trifecta medal.

The medal wedge you receive will be based on the year in which you run that individual race. For example, if you run a Sprint in 2019 (during the transition period), that will be the same as the other 2019 medal wedges. If you run the Super and Beast in 2020, those will be the 2020 medal wedges. They may display different years, but they will still fit together to make up the Spartan Trifecta logo. There is no exchanging of wedges between years.

2x and 3x Trifecta medals will include a pouch which has a medal, lanyard, patch and delta coin.  4x and above is the medal and lanyard only.

2020 Passes

As of 11/15/2019, the 2020 US Elite, Age Group, or Open Season Pass and the 2020 US Trifecta Pass will apply to races occurring during the Transition Period (November 4th, 2019 - December 31st, 2019). With this one exception, all passes will apply to their calendar year (January - December). Any races already purchased without the use of the pass cannot be refunded retroactively.
