Spartan Virtual Races

New challenges. New rewards. This season, virtual racing is back and better than ever — this time with Regional Challenges and Mountain Modes. You won’t want to miss out.

Every weekend, we’re hosting a different Spartan Virtual Race distance. These events are open to racers around the world. No registration is required.

Each Spartan Virtual Race consists of a run and obstacles. If running outside isn’t an option, you can also complete a cardio equivalent. You’ll take on push-ups, mountain climbers and more to finish. Earn a free global leaderboard spot and virtual medal, or buy a Virtual Race Upgrade and get rewards mailed to your doorstep.

The Challenge:

For each event that is cancelled or postponed, you can now partake in a virtual challenge to match that race. 

  1. Sprint: 5K run (or substitute) + the following 20 obstacles:
    • 10 pushups
    • 10 burpees
    • 10 mountain climbers (per side)
    • 10 jumping jacks
    • 10 air squats
    • 10 forward lunges (per side)
    • 10 hand-release pushups
    • 10 tuck jumps
    • 10 plank up-downs
    • 10 planks shoulder taps (per side)
    • 10 knee slap mountain climbers (per side)
    • 10 reverse lunges (per leg)
    • 10 glute bridges
    • 10 dips
    • 10 decline pushups
    • 10 single leg squats (per side)
    • 10 calf raises
    • 10-second plank
    • 10-second hollow hold
    • 10-second squat
  2. Super: 10K run (or substitute) + all Sprint obstacles + the additional obstacles below:
    • 10 situps 
    • 10 leg raises
    • 10 bicycle crunches (per side)
    • 10 v-ups
    • 10 supermans
  3. Beast: 21K run (or substitute) + all Sprint & Super obstacles + the additional obstacles below:
    • 10 walk out pushups
    • 10 burpee tuck jumps
    • 10-second wall sit
    • 10 flutter kicks (per side)
    • 10 diamond pushups
  4. Ultra: 50K run (or substitute) + Beast obstacles x2

Obstacles can be completed at any time throughout the workout, as long as they are completed. This means you can "stack" them and do them all at the beginning or end, spread them out throughout the workout, or any other combination. Just get it done!

Run Substitutes: The following alternate exercises for running are available to all competitors who are currently unable to run outside:

  1. Treadmill / Air or Fan Bike - Distance requirements are the same as running or walking outside/inside.
  2. Bike / Stationary Bike / Peloton / Spin Bike  - Each run distance multiplied by 3. For example, a 5K run would be a 15K ride.
  3. Rowing Machine / Kayak - Each run distance multiplied by 1.2. For example, a 5K run would be 6K (6000 m) of rowing.
  4. Ski Erg - Each run distance multiplied by 1.2. For example, a 5K run would be 6K (6000 m) on a ski erg machine.
  5. Jump Rope - For Sprint, 2000 jump rope. For Super, 4000 jump ropes. For Beast, 8000 jump rope. For Ultra, 20,000 jump rope. 
  6. Stair Climb / Step Machine / Step Ups - For Sprint, 2000 steps. For Super, 4000 steps. For Beast, 8000 steps. For Ultra, 20,000 steps. 
  7. Swim - For Sprint, 1 mile (1600 m) swim. For Super, 1.5 mi (2400 m) swim. For Beast, 3.2 mi (5200 m) swim. For Ultra, 7.5 mi (12,070 m) swim. 
  8. Bear Crawl - Each run distance divided by 3. For example, a 5K run would be a 1 mi (1600 m) crawl.
  9. Lateral Bounds/Ice Skaters - Each distance is repetition based. For Sprint, 1000 bounds (500 per side). For Super, 2000. For Beast, 4000. For Ultra, 10,000. 

Results Submissions

Virtual races will be conducted on weekends, just like a Spartan Race!

We would just need your info and ANY link for your proof. This could be a link to your social media post, a link to your tracking app like Strava, a link to your youtube video. Any link showing basic proof of completion is fine. No need to over think it. We just want to see you out there having fun. 

For Trifectas, you do not need to complete all races on the same weekend. The virtual trifecta can be broken up into as many days or weekends as you want.

Trail: This zero-obstacle, 10K and 21K challenge will test your grit in the great outdoors. Note that Trail races cannot be completed with a cardio equivalent. Trail racers can only run or walk to reach the finish line.

Mountain Mode: Elevate your Virtual Race by competing in Mountain Mode. Racers must take on at least 500 m of elevation over the course of their race to join. This optional challenge is only offered on a handful of dates, so don’t miss your chance to join.

Super - 1650 ft / 500 m 

Beast - 3300 ft / 1000 m 

Ultra - 6600 ft / 2000 m 

Trail 10K - 1650 ft / 500 m 

Trail 21K - 3300 ft / 1000 m 

 

State vs State, Country vs Country:

What’s a race without some friendly competition? We’re adding in Country vs. Country competition to this season’s Virtual Race. Whichever country has the most entries each week will be declared the weekly Virtual Race Champs. Rally your whole squad and get ready to rep your home turf.


Schedule:

July 4/5: Sprint, Kids .5 Mile

July 11/12: Beast, Kids 2 Mile

July 18/19: Super, Kids 1 Mile

July 25/26: Ultra, Trail, All Kids distances

 

Virtual Prizes

  • All finishers will receive a personalized finisher's email certificate with the option to share on social media!
  • A Trifecta Virtual Medal will be available for those who complete a Sprint, Super, and Beast/Ultra (this will be sent about 2 weeks after you've submitted your final result).

There is no need to submit your proof before buying them. If you already completed a race, you can still buy them. Not all races need to be completed on any particular day or weekend. 


Common Questions



1) The virtual trifecta can be broken up into as many days or weekends as you want. There is no requirement to complete it on one weekend.

You can also break this up event up in any way. You can do all the Cardio and the obstacles, or you can do some cardio and some obstacles and keep repeating. It is up to you.

There is no need to submit your proof before buying them. If you already completed a race, you can still buy them. If you forget to upload your results it is ok, we will still send you your package.

4) Unfortunately you are not able to use any kind of race credit towards the purchase of the upgrade, as the race itself is free.

5) Virtual Trifecta badges (not the purchased upgrade) will be sent about 2 weeks after you complete your trifecta.
