How do I qualify for the 2017 World Championship?

The 2017 World Championship will be returning to Lake Tahoe. To run in the World Championship Heat for prize money and awards, you will need to earn a Spartan Coin.

There are 4 ways earn a Spartan Coin in 2017:

  1. The Top 5 racers in the Men's and the Top 5 in the Women's Elite Heat at any Spartan event in the US and Canada, who do not already have a coin, will earn a coin.
  2. The Top 10 racers in the Men's and the Top 10 in the Women's Elite Heat at any Spartan event outside the US and Canada, will earn a coin.
  3. The Top 50 racers in both the US Elite Point Series standings and the World Elite Point series (the main standings not the Stadium series) after the last event before the World Championship event will earn a coin.
  4. Top Athletes from across the world will be invited by Spartan. We are talking Olympic gold medalists...winning your local 5K will not count.

Any event from January 1st 2017 until Sunday prior to the World Championship will provide the opportunity to earn a coin.

If anyone in the Top 5 finishers has already earned a coin, then the 6th place finisher will earn one. If the 6th place finisher already has earned a coin, it will pass to the 7th place finisher, and so on. This will continue until 5 new people have a coin at each event.  (Note: In order to qualify for coins there needs to be at least 30 men or 10 women in the Elite heat.)

On top of getting a physical coin all qualified racers in 2017 will earn a virtual coin so you can brag on Social Media.

How Do I Register for the World Championship Heat?

All Elite Racers should sign up for the Elite Heat in the World Championship Event, as usual. Coin holders (regardless of when the coin is earned) will be moved to the specific coin holder World Championship Heat automatically, prior to race day.

Any racers signed up for the Elite heat that do NOT earn a coin will be placed in a second Elite wave for non-coin holders. The non-coin holder Elite wave will NOT be eligible for World Championship cash prizes, but will earn Elite Series points toward their overall points-ranking for the year.

If you have any other questions please email US@Spartan.com.

    Hello sport friends,
after the World Championships 2014 Spartan Race in Vermont, I just wanted to sign up for the World Championships 2015. Then, when the Internet was pre-registration so I registered. It was late 2014th. Since then I have not received any report.
Now when I want to log in again and pay I found that Elite Men's Championship 7:30AM Registration choice is full.
I therefore entered there - the site?
You only need to pay a fee? In what way?
I know that this race Spartan World Championship Lake Tahoe Beast 10/3/2015 I have to qualify. But I wish that I was registered as a timely logged athlete.

Do you think it would be possible to publish a running list of elites that have qualified for the world championships so we know who has qualified thus far?

I too would like to know what Heather Wright has asked. Can anyone sign up for the World Championship in Tahoe? I have done the Beast before and I would like to do it in Tahoe this year. If anyone knows the answer to this could you please email me at spike_realfolkblues@yahoo.com with the title Spartan Tahoe Race? Thank you

Everyone who is registered on the World Championship in Tahoe Elite wave and qualified some of the competition will receive such confirmation mail? Even in Europe or to only send competitors from the US?
(Congratulations Name! You´ve earned a spot in the elite wawe at the 2015 Reebok Spartan Race World Championschip in Lake Tahoe, California, USA. Now that you have qualified, it´s time to officially your spot.)

So I'm confused. I placed 8th in the Elite heat in the Spartan Sprint held in Vancouver back in June. There were more than 30 males in this heat, and I was not given a coin nor did I receive an email about qualifying for the championship. I actually only found out about the coins a few weeks ago when my friend qualified in Ottawa this August. From what I've read I think I should have qualified, Top 10 in an elite heat with more than 30 males registered. Or am I missing something?
