2017 Elite Racer Point Series and Ranking

Our Spartan Elite Point Series assigns rankings (totally separate from any Trifecta status) to the most preeminent Spartans in the country.  It began the SUNDAY after our World Championship event 10/4/15 and runs until 12/31/16. Starting in 2017 it will run from January 1st until December 31st every year.

In order for your results to be properly tabulated into rankings for our Spartan Point Series, you will need to "claim" all your results through Athlinks and make sure all your relevant races are grouped under one Athlinks profile. You can find out how to do that here, as well as fix common Athlinks profile problems.

Here's the specifics of how you earn points:

Spartan Race Elite Point Series:

For open points please visit Spartan Open Point Series and Ranking

Base Points earned are weighted based on course distance:

Sprint: 96% points (288 total to first place male/female).

Super: 98% points (294 total to first place male/female).

Beast: 100% points (300 total to first place male/female).

Finally, for the first time ever, we will have a Stadium Series with its own points and rankings. You now have two series to compete in and earn cash and prizes.

Stadium: 96% points (288 total to first place male/female).

Points are calculated based on a % of best finish time for overall male and overall female (overall male's time / your time x 300 points)

Example: You are an elite male, you finished the sprint race in 1:02:32. The first place male finished in 59:53. First you convert to seconds for both and then divide, so 3,593 / 3,632 x 300 pts x .96 (Sprint distance weighting) = 284.9 or 285

What else you need to know:

  • To Qualify as Elite you must race in the designated Elite heat. If you race in the Elite wave for some of your races and race in the Open heats for a couple of events, those Open heat races will not  be combined with your Elite points in the Elite series.
  • Elite heat must have a minimum of 30 male or 10 female participants to qualify the athletes to receive ranking points at that event. In some cases, race directors may allow only ranked athletes to enter a Elite heat.
  • Stadium Event points and Non-Stadium (regular) Event points will be calculated separately.
  • Only your top 5 best races within the Continental US earn points (for both the main and stadium series).
  • If you are late to your heat you will not earn Elite points, at the race directors discretion.

    Hi,
Is Spartan race still doing the Spartan 300 for the top 150 male and female athletes?

    Thanks,

    Matt

I get that double lapping a course in a day does not count towards the trifecta, but can you earn points on both laps? Thanks, James

    Hi James,
Great question. Points are not earned twice, unless you run in the two separate divisions - Elite AND Open.
If you run 2 laps of Open, then you only earn points on your best lap. If you run a lap of Elite, and a lap of Open, you'd earn points twice - one towards your Elite points standing, and one toward your open points standing.

I had to register for the beast in temecula in the open class As the elite was sold out but as an elite season pass holder I showed up and they switched me to the elite heat but my results were listed under the open class is there a way to switch those results to the elite division

    Hi Steven,
Our SoCal results may have taken a few days to get corrected. If they are still showing incorrectly, send us an email with all your details (start time, bib number, etc.) and we'd be happy to correct that for you.

For the 2014 Points Ranking, is there a way to find out the breakdown of overall racers, racers by gender, and racers by age (particularly open, but others may be more interested in elite)? I can see the top people, I can search for anyone, but how many total overall, total gender, total age. (Without clicking Load More Athletes indefinitely).

Chrome67, you can see the prizes, etc. for racers in the Elite Division, here: https://spartanrace.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203076806-The-Spartan-300-Elite-Racer-Cash-and-Prizes

Thanks- I saw that but I'm asking about the OPEN points. Before the website was redone, it noted that the top 100 or so Open received something as well plus discounts etc

    Chrome,
Sorry about that! At this time, there are no specific prizes, etc. for the Open Heat leaders. Open Age Division winners are eligible for special shirts/prizes on site at each race, but other than that, there are no open division prizes.

I read the post in this chain that if you run a course twice in one day the second lap did not count towards a Trifecta. Is that correct? It would not count towards the same Trifecta of course, but wouldn't it count towards a second Trifecta?

Also, is there a way to get O/G/A results for 2014 races?

    SK,
Two laps of the same course on the same day do NOT count towards a trifecta, or toward a second trifecta. Our results system will only count ONE result per event, per day.
If we run two events in the same day (Sprint and Super for instance) and you run both, you would get credit as they are two separate events. But if you run the sprint twice, only one result will count toward the trifecta.

In the 2014 ranking Spartan Elite is my name in duplicate and race are broken.
If they were racing together under one name I would have more points. To what address do I write to correct it. In 2014 Euro Elite Circuit have registered 8 races in 2014 Spartan Elite World Series only seven races. Different people doing it, I have to have any two addresses?

Hi Jan, that's a pretty easy fix! Take a look at this article for instructions:

In Athlinks everything is correct, there are all races. My name is the same everywhere. The problem is in the transmission of data to the Spartan race ranking.

Hi Jan, Sorry, I should've been more clear. All that data is fed to us directly from Athlinks. You'll want to contact them directly (via the link in the article above) and they'll be able to correct any discrepancies with your points, etc.

So, when I access the rankings from the main page of the site, is this for OPEN or ELITE? Just US? If I understand correctly, there are basically "2" series each in Canada and US. Open and elite. Once you start one or the other, you need to continue for the year in order to accumulate points. Also, you need to "claim" your race finish in order to be compiled into ANY list. Eastern Canada is done differently? Not compiled with the US or it is compiled with the US? I am sure it is straight forward, but as a new participant in 2014 I have found it a bit tricky to navigate.

    Hi Chris!
All good questions! You're correct - we rank the Elite athletes separate than the Open athletes, so yes, two separate series for each year. To accumulate the most of your points, you'd want to pick one series (open or elite) and stay in that for the points year, but it is possible to run in both and be ranked in both, during the year.
You do need to "claim" your finish through Athlinks, to ensure that it's included under your name/profile for ranking purposes.

Canada is not compiled with the US, at this time. You'll see Canadian racers under "international" rankings, at this time.
You can choose which set of rankings you'd like to see by changing the drop down box on the Rankings home page: http://www.spartan.com/races/athlete-profiles/2014-rankings/

Oh, I forgot to ask. US - Points accumulated from the Sunday after Vermont to the Saturday of Vermont. Canada? The same or Jan - Dec?

Chris, per the article above, Points season (different than trifecta season) is from Sunday of VT to the World Championship the following year (sat). That points season is the same for ALL Spartan races, including international.

    A few questions,

Is there a minimum number of races to be considered in the points standing? Is there a maximum and are the best results taken from those races?

Why when I look at certain athlete profiles they count sprints, super and beasts.... does it make a difference as to which one you compete in to earn points? Can you max out points at certain distances? Some athletes have points from all three different lengths.

    Hi Everyone,

We are working on the 2015 points and hope to have them up very soon.

There is no minimum or maximum amount of races to be considered. If you run 3 and place high enough to land in the top 150 you will earn the awards associated with that place. However the competition is tough, so it is unlikely you will make the top 150 with less than 5 races. Also you can run as many as you like, your top 5 will be used to calculate the rank. Your top five races no matter the distance will count.

I will have final clarification on the stadium series soon and will let you know and update the FAQ.

Hello, I really like the idea of earning your way into the Elite Heat at the World Championships but there is an item I am still unclear on. I understand you need to earn a coin and there will be 5 given per event (5 male/5 female) and 20 coins at qualifying events for a total of 300 per gender. Could you please direct me to a list of events that will be issuing these coins and where are the the Qualifying events in which the top 20 will be given a coin? This information really needs to get out so we can plan our season. Thanks! Rodney "Rodzilla" Nesbitt AROO!

    Hello,

Every event in the world will count for the top 5 elites. At this time we have not finalized the 10 championships events, however I can say there will only be 1 for each distance in the US. The other 8 will be spread out across the world.

    Thanks,

So I understand that if you run 4 races in the elite division before the world championships and don't qualify for the elite heat at the world championship you will be placed in the Open division at the world championships, correct? Would the world championship race count towards your 5 elite races and ranking?

    Hello sport friends,
I am Jan Durin, Slovakia, born 4. november 1954.
The Spartan race I inclusion in your records in the age group 60 year old and 59 year olds.
In most races rated my age of 60 years old. Take into account the year of birth. So it is in other sports, for example, orienteering where I raced for many years. But in some races (states) USA, UK take into account the date day of birth, and I am in the category 59 years of age.
You can change at my age range to 60 years? It's important for me in terms of scoring race.
    thank you
