In 2014, Spartan Race added the pre-registration process, to ensure a more consistent and reliable experience for our racers.
What is Pre-Registration?
Pre-Registration is a no-commitment process that takes place when a race is still in the planning stages. During this period, racers can "Pre-Register" by providing their name and email address. Doing so will not place any obligation on the racer to actually register and pay for the event if and when it goes live. It will, however, place the racer on our mailing list for that event, ensuring the racer gets updates sent directly to their inbox. When/if the race does open for registration, pre-registered racers will be given the opportunity to register at a reduced rate, prior to the general public.
Note: A race that is in pre-registration is NOT guaranteed to open for registration.
But WHY is the race in Pre-Registration?
Pre-Registration allows us to do a few things:
- Gauge how many Spartans in a particular area may be interested in Spartaning Up and taking on a race.
- Determine if there is enough interest to bring a race to an area - which is much better than planning an event, getting people excited for it, then having to cancel it because not enough people register.
- Solidify ALL the details - contracts with the venue, logistics, staffing, etc. Races do not come out of pre-registration until all systems are 100% GO.
- Prevent race cancellations and last-minute changes (of venue, date, etc.) under most circumstances. (The only things in life that are certain are taxes and burpees...so, while we aim to solidify all details once a race is accepting registrations, under extreme circumstances we might still need to make a change. In such cases, all parties affected would be notified.)
How long will the race be in Pre-Registration?
We aim to have races in Pre-Registration no longer than 3-4 months. However, races can be in Pre-Registration for an indefinite period of time, depending on the situation behind the scenes. We might be waiting on contracts to be finalized, a date to be approved, etc. As soon as we have all the information settled, we will open the race for registration and email all pre-registered racers.
But I'm trying to plan my Race Season and/or Trifecta races. Now what?
For planning purposes, we recommend getting pre-registered for the events that you're interested in. By doing so, you'll be the first to know any and all details about that race as soon as we have them. Until that point, we can not guarantee that the race will take place, or any specific dates or locations - we'd advise you plan accordingly, and not structure your entire season around a pre-registered race, until all the details are released.
PLEASE BE AWARE: Spartan Race Customer Support and our Spartan Race Facebook Team do not have any "insider" information and will NOT be able to give you additional information about a race that is in Pre-Registration. Get on the Pre-Registration list, and you'll be the first to know when we know. This includes (but is not limited to) races like the Peoria Beast, Western Mass Beast, Kentucky Sprint, etc.
