What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.
Racers that complete an Ultra Beast will be able to count that as a "Beast" for their Trifecta.
Racers that complete any stadium event, or Cornell College Classic, will be able to count that as a "Sprint" toward their Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

    Matias,
Luke is correct! As long as you do the sprint on different days (Saturday and Sunday), it would count as two sprints toward your trifecta. You can not race multiple laps in the SAME DAY (say, two laps on Saturday) and have it count toward your trifecta.

    Hi Kimmie!
If you sign up for 2 sprints, 2 supers and 2 beasts in 2015 you would get individual medals for all of those events, AND you would be eligible to receive the special double (2x) trifecta medal.

Sorry if you already answered this question but will everyone who finishes the SoCal Beast on January 17th be receiving two sets of medals for both 2014 and 2015?

But there is still a way to get the seperate trifecta medal! If you complete your final race in Canada you should be able to receive the full trifecta completion medal as we have not changed to the pie piece style. Also, the medals this year for the Sprint, Super, and Beast are AWESOME! I'd recommend coming to Ottawa for the Beast in several weeks :) One thing I'm not certain of though is whether the other, non-Beast races would have the trifecta medal available at them, as the Ottawa Beast is Canada's first and only Beast race...unfortunately. Bottom line, we're still using the old style trifecta medal format!

I bought the Destination Pass (6 races) for the specific purpose of getting a double trifecta this year.  This is my 2016 goal and now after digging around the site trying to figure out why the count of my races isn't correct, I see that running a race twice in a day doesn't count!?  Well, that makes absolutely no sense.  I paid twice and ran the race twice (Houston Sprint Elite and Open) to get the Sprints done.  I then ran the Tahoe Beast Open on Saturday and the Tahoe Beast Elite on Sunday.  The website shows that I have only run each race twice even though my bib times show a total of the four races.  I am planning on running the Alabama Super Elite and Open in one day to complete the double.  I can't accept that the second runs don't count.  After all, it is much more difficult to do a race twice in a day than it is to have them separated.  Also, some people can't afford to double the amount of travel needed to complete them all on separate days.  I paid for six races, I will be running six races (2 of each) and I should get the double.  I EARNED IT!!!

It's because the trifecta is not limited to races completed in the US. There's 2-3 in Canada that you can earn, as well as another 2-3 in Mexico and then several in Europe and another in Australia, another in Hawaii, etc., etc. They all count. In fact, I was informed that the Supers are harder to accumulate than the beasts.

    Hi Joann,
It sounds like there might be some confusion in all the comments you may have read!
The trifecta wedge pieces WILL still be given out for 2015 (and likely 2016). The dates and styling may look a bit different, but they will still be the wedge size. They should still technically fit together, even though they won't "match".
That said, it sounds like you're aware (but just going to make sure it's clear for the comment-readers!), an "official" trifecta is in one calendar year. However, you're certainly welcome to do it like you're doing it - over multiple years, if that works better for you. Doing all three races over several years is way better than never doing all three at all!

As noted above “only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment”.
To my understanding, it is acceptable to complete a Super and a Sprint on the same day, and still count it as 2 out of 3 for the Trifecta, right?

    Adam,
At this time we will not be providing a separate Trifecta medal, since all three pieces join together to form it. Thanks for your feedback, though!

Hello, I've seen a lot of pictures of a medal piece that goes around the trifecta to hold it in place that says Camaraderie, Courage and Competition. How do I get one of those when I complete my trifecta? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Thanks!

If my stadium race counts why do I still have to run the sprint, super and beast in one weekend?

I read somewhere to complete Trifecta, it wasn't a calendar year, but 12 months after your first race...has this changed? Some people begin their first Spartan race in November or December

I am kind of bummed. So for this year, Spartan Race is no longer giving a separate trifecta medal? I am doing the Sacramento Super October 25th which will earn me the trifecta but I was really hoping to get an additional medal and not have to piece together the three that I will have. I feel like the accomplishment of completing all races should have earned me "additional" hardware as it has in the past. I planned to keep the medals for memories but it feels a little incomplete knowing that I won't get the extra medal. However, I could have sworn I saw folks floating around after the Temecula race with separate trifecta medals, no?

I'm seriously bummed! My first Spartan was the SoCal sprint in January. I'm doing the SoCal beast in September, but there isn't a super close enough to me before Dec, 31st. Why isn't there a SoCal Super with the beast instead of another sprint? Now I have wait until January to go for the Trifecta again. This sucks!

You should do stadium medal slices next year, like a 5slice medal that connects if you complete all baseball stadiums.

My friend got denied his trifecta medal in 2014 because he was told he had to do 2 trifecta to earn it? This information is nowhere to be found ? Is it correct?

    Hi George!
Hawaii is "separate" from the continental US for things like registration and medals, etc. If you're competing in events solely in Hawaii, they will have certain medals for you. If you're doing some in the continental US and some in Hawaii, shoot us and email with your races, and we can let you know your options!

@Dillon - We'll be with you shortly, via email! We'll be setting you up with that make up race, no problem.

@Bignvv - Unfortunately, we're not giving out a separate trifecta medal this year. You do have the option of purchasing additional trifecta merchandise (shirts, etc.) at the event, or through our online store. In addition, we are offering a "holder" that all three wedge pieces fit into (making it into "one" medal). That can be purchased on site at an event, or will soon be available in the online store.

You may have saw one-piece trifecta medals in Temecula, as we still offer those for double, triple, quadruple trifectas, etc. (but they're much bigger than last years trifecta medal).

@tammy - Spartan no longer issues the Trifecta medal for first time trifectas. if you complete your first trifecta with the Dallas Beast, you'll receive the standard Beast Medal and a beast wedge that you can piece together to create a trifecta medal. You can buy the plate that holds them from spartan or look up a different holder online. Once you complete a double or additional trifectas within a calendar year, Spartan issues special medals for that.

My husband has just participated in his second death race. I am inspired by him and now want to set the goal of completing a trifecta. Could you please clarify 1. do stadium races count towards the trifecta and 2. Is a trifecta by calendar year or by the date of your first race? Thank you!
