What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.
Racers that complete an Ultra Beast will be able to count that as a "Beast" for their Trifecta.
Racers that complete any stadium event, or Cornell College Classic, will be able to count that as a "Sprint" toward their Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

Can someone run the SoCal Beast or SoCal Sprint in January 2015, and use it towards a 2015 Trifecta? Thank you.

William, you do not need to complete the races in order to qualify for the trifecta. Three different distances completed in one calendar year.

NiCE!!! It's not confusing anymore! Before, the calendar year started and ended with the South Carolina Spartan I believe. Having it start and end in the same year is MUCH better! I do have one question though.
Do you still award a single piece medal for a trifecta? Or is that now 2x and 3x?

Am I missing something? You have a list of 2016 preregistration sites. When I preregister, it says 2015. Just don't want to be a no-show (especially since specific dates aren't listed yet).

    Hi Nicki!
You do NOT need to email in advance to receive your double trifecta medal! When you finish your last race to earn it, just head over to the Announcer/DJ area. They'll verify your races and present you with your medal! AROO!

Hey Jen! The closest super would be in Sacramento on October 25th. It might be a haul to drive the length of the great state of California, but trust me, it's worth it for the pride you'll feel holding that trifecta medal. Good luck getting all three pieces!

I am currently one race away from my trifecta! My Super medal must have incorrect magnets because it will not connect to my Beast medal. I reached out to customer service and they sent me a new Beast medal but my Super medal seems to be the issue. Any chance someone from Spartan Race can bring me a new Super medal to Milwaukee Nov. 1st, so i can have my three piece trifecta metal? If not, can they send me one... I reached back out to Spartan Race (Jake) and have not heard back.

    Hey Bill!

You're exactly right. If you run Ohio for the Trifecta-in-a-day, it is a full "official" trifecta (as you will have run all three distances). SO, if you already have one trifecta completed and then you do Ohio Trifecta-in-a-day, we will VERY proudly award you your Double Trifecta medal at the end of the day!

Just wanted to toss in support for the wedge metals! My son and I are finishing our trifecta next weekend in VT, personally we LOVE the wedge pieces that form into a single medal! Nothing like motivation seeing an unfinished medal sitting on the table!

As for the calendar year restriction, not an issue for us, we knew the rules going in, so nothing to complain about!

You guys do great, now just don't kill us to bad on Killington!

For the trifecta, If I do the San Francisco Sprint in August, do I have to do the Super and Beast in this calendar year to get the trifecta, or do I have until next August to get it?

    Steven,
Thanks for asking! Basically, in addition to the technology limitations that I noted, we feel that it's important for racers to test themselves on different terrain and courses, to earn a multiple trifecta. It's not just about the "mileage" it's about taking on the different courses and different challenges presented at each - whether it's the crazy Georgia Mud, or the mountains of VT, each event brings something different.

A couple of questions regarding this in your post..
"Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces! There are no single trifecta medals for any country. "

So does this mean when I finish my Trifecta in Dallas I will get Specific "Trifecta Medal" or will I just get one that says Beast & I have to "Buy" the plate that holds all 3 pieces?

Also, I know you give out T-shirts after we finish our race, will it be a "Beast" or a "Trifecta" or Both? This is my 1st Trifecta and I want to make sure I have ALL of my Gear for my Craziness at 48 that made me Do This lol. Thanks for your time! Tammy

    Hi Ryan,
2x, 3x, etc. trifecta medals are Calendar year only. If anyone was given a 2x that took them two years to complete, it was given in error, absolutely.
From our above article: "A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes on of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only 1 lap per day per event will count towards this accomplishment. "

    Fernando,
Oops, sorry for the confusion, I should clarify: The piece medals are only for 2014. In previous years we had given out the full round medals for each event and then a separate medal for the trifecta.

Luke, that is correct! The Ultra Beast event will count as a Beast toward your trifecta. So, if a person completes a Sprint, Super and Ultra Beast, they'll be all set!
    Thanks for adding that!

    Hi James,
The single trifecta medal is made up of your wedge pieces, as you noted. If you're looking for the solid trifecta medal, those come from earning 2x, 3x (etc.) trifectas. That is the number of trifectas in a Calendar (Jan-Dec) year ONLY. So, to earn a solid 2x trifecta medal, you'd have to do 2 sprints, 2 supers and 2 beasts within the same calendar year.

    Hello,
I did a Beast (Ohio May 30th), Sprint (Pennsylvania July 12th), and Super (Toronto July 18th). I do not see that the Super in Toronto Canada is on my Activities List. I would like to get my Trifecta Medal. Does the Toronto Super count towards the Trifecta Medal? Thanks.

So when do we get our registration information for that? Me and my nephew got cut short on the course for 1mile but reading that FAQ we officially didn't finish so we officially didn't get our trifecta so we should be getting a makeup race. I emailed spartan.com too.

@Raven- they all have to be in the same year.
@Loni- yes both would count towards your trifecta

Hello, Me and My Husband completed our 2015 Trifecta this past weekend at Lake Tahoe. We did Spartan Sprint in January 2015, Spartan Super in June 2015 and Spartan Beast October 2015. As you know it rained saturday during the Beast and wile we finished the race, we did not ask for the separate trifecta medal at the end. My question is can we request the trifecta medal?

I shouldn't have to wait until next year to start earning a trifecta! The calendar year rule is just plain stupid. The trifecta season should start from your first race no matter when in the year it is.

Maher - You can absolutely do a Beast and an Ultra Beast in the same year, as long as you can fit them into your schedule/travel plans!

Antonios - Correct, that's a great clarification. One lap per day, PER EVENT, will count toward your trifecta. So, if you ran the sprint twice in one day, only one would count. But if you ran a sprint and super in the same day, one lap of each would count.
