What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.

Stadium Sprints do count as a "Sprint" towards the Trifecta.

Racers that complete an Ultra Beast will be able to count that as a "Beast" for their Trifecta. However, you must complete the entire Ultra Beast for it to count. Only completing half will not result in a "Beast" towards your Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

I've been reading the comments and the message I'm getting is that races in Canada do NOT have the medal pieces for the trifecta. So how do I get the pieces? I'm looking at completing a trifecta this year and two of the three races are at sun peaksBC in September

    Hi Bryant,
You do not have to run the sprint again, if you run a stadium event. In the calendar year, you have to run one of each type (sprint/super/beast), and the stadium event counts as your Sprint. So, it's perfectly fine to run a Stadium, Super and Beast in one calendar year, to receive your trifecta.

    Swimmingfiresnail,

As of 2015, ALL international races will have the trifecta wedge pieces! You're good to go!

Do 2014 and 2015 medals truly not fit together?

I've been convinced to do a beast next month and following it with a super and then sprint in 2016. Yes, I'm doing it completely backwards of what a sane person would do, but that's just how the scheduling worked out.

Am I truly out of luck of fitting a trifecta medal together without doing another beast in 2016 for a full calendar year?

    What a bummer.

    Hi Joann,
It sounds like there might be some confusion in all the comments you may have read!
The trifecta wedge pieces WILL still be given out for 2015 (and likely 2016). The dates and styling may look a bit different, but they will still be the wedge size. They should still technically fit together, even though they won't "match".
That said, it sounds like you're aware (but just going to make sure it's clear for the comment-readers!), an "official" trifecta is in one calendar year. However, you're certainly welcome to do it like you're doing it - over multiple years, if that works better for you. Doing all three races over several years is way better than never doing all three at all!

Hello, I just finished my Trifecta and didn't know to ask for the small trifecta medal I am reading about. How can I go about getting this? Also, where on the spartan page can I find my results from all 3 races to see the trifecta went through?

Hi Jennifer - sounds like there may be some confusion. If this is your first trifecta this year, there is no separate medal; your trifecta medal is made up of the three "wedges" you received at the end of each event.
If you have results on each individual event, your trifecta is all set!
If you want to view all of your results this year, the easiest way is "claim" your results via Athlinks and view all of your results in one place:

Just wanted to toss in support for the wedge metals! My son and I are finishing our trifecta next weekend in VT, personally we LOVE the wedge pieces that form into a single medal! Nothing like motivation seeing an unfinished medal sitting on the table!

As for the calendar year restriction, not an issue for us, we knew the rules going in, so nothing to complain about!

You guys do great, now just don't kill us to bad on Killington!

If you complete only 1 lap of the Ultrabeast does it count as a beast for double/triple trifecta purposes?

Do you count 1 Sprint on Saturday and 1 Sprint on Sunday as 2 Sprint to complete 2x trifecta? By Nov I will already have 2 Trifecta, 2 Beast & 2 Super. Can I do Sprint LA on Satuday Dec 5 & Sunday Dec 6 to complete my 3x Trifecta and 4x Trifecta? And get the "4x Trifecta" special medal? Thanks

@Erwilcox3 - If you complete the Ultrabeast it will count as a beast toward your trifecta count.

@Nadia Budiman - A Sprint on the Saturday and another on Sunday would count as the requisite x2 Sprints needed for your x2 trifecta medal. I'm not clear on your second question though. If you have x2 Sprint, x2 Super, and x2 Beast and complete two Sprints on the Dec. 5/6 weekend, you would still require an additional x2 Supers and x2 beast in order to qualify for the x3 trifecta and x4 trifecta. The special trifecta medals are handed out starting at x2 trifecta.

I would like to compliment Spartan Race this season on adding a standard medal with the wedges. I think it's nice to have all the wedges adding up to form the trifecta, but on their own they don't really feel like a full medal. I completed the Beast in Vermont this weekend and the finisher's medal was gorgeous (which came with the beast wedge) and so too was the lanyard that came along with it. I'm not sure how many venues get unique medals (I also received one at the CitiField stadium race), but they have been very much appreciated and acknowledged by fellow racers. Now if we could just get back to those unique Beast finisher shirts that were awarded in the past few years...

    Hi all!

@Erwilcox3: No, If you FINISH the UB, it counts as a beast for trifecta purposes, but if you DNF (or only one lap), it's a DNF and doesn't count anything toward your trifecta.

@Nadia, Luke is correct! 1 lap, per day, can count toward your trifecta. So, if you do a Sprint on Saturday and a Sprint on Sunday, that's two sprints toward your trifecta count.

@Luke, thanks for the compliment! We love our medals as much as our racers do, and are always trying to find ways to make them more awesome! Look for some AWESOME new developments for 2016....

@rseelochan, I'm sorry we didn't have that double trifecta ready for you, in VT! shoot an email to us@spartan.com (or submit a request on the bottom of this page) and we'll take care of you!

@Luke Rutherford: thanks for the reply and good news. What I meant was by Nov, I will already have 4xBeast, 4xSuper, 2xSprint. And I need 2 more Sprint to complete my 4x Trifecta goal this year. :)

@Aja: thank you for the confirmation. So on Saturday, I can claim my 3x Trifecta medal, and on Sunday I can claim my 4x Trifecta medal, correct? Thanks again

Aja, I have asked before but didn't get a response. I've heard if I run Super Elite and Super Open in one day, that can count as 2 Supers for the trifecta. Is this correct?

@Ryan - You would receive two finisher medals, but it would only count as one race toward the trifecta.

@Ryan - I think the official rule is that only one of each race type counts toward the trifecta per day. Although I would be interested in knowing what would happen if someone completed the Ultra Beast and then the Beast right after... :)

@Ryan, Luke is correct - If you run Super Elite and Super Open, you would receive two finisher medals, but only ONE lap, per day counts toward the trifecta. We will take your best lap, but still only one will count.

@Luke, UB counts as a Beast for trifecta purposes (assuming someone finishes the whole thing. We don't count a 1-lap, incomplete UB, as a beast). So, if someone did the UB, then went around again for the Beast... it'd pretty much be (from a trifecta perspective) the same as doing two Beasts. Great question though! I've yet to see this happen. :-)

Hello, I've seen a lot of pictures of a medal piece that goes around the trifecta to hold it in place that says Camaraderie, Courage and Competition. How do I get one of those when I complete my trifecta? I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. Thanks!

Greetings Aja, My wife completed the Spartan Sprint in January of 2015 and the Spartan Beast in October of 2015 (I joined her and LOVED it!). We are scheduled to run the Spartan Super in November in Sacramento.

Here's my quesiton: I see a Spartan Super is scheduled in Temecula, January 30th and 31st, 2016. Could she run the Super in Temecula and still be recognized as achieving the trifecta? Temecula is much more manageable a travel distance for us being from the OC.

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Hello, Me and My Husband completed our 2015 Trifecta this past weekend at Lake Tahoe. We did Spartan Sprint in January 2015, Spartan Super in June 2015 and Spartan Beast October 2015. As you know it rained saturday during the Beast and wile we finished the race, we did not ask for the separate trifecta medal at the end. My question is can we request the trifecta medal?

@ Joe Hendrickson - it is sold at the merchandise tent. you can also buy it online
@ Bill Forliano - technically the trifecta needs to be earned within a calendar year.

@ Luz Mendoza - Spartan no longer issues a single medal for single trifecta. once you've completed 2 trifectas or more within a calendar year, you can request a special medal.

    Hello,
I did a Beast (Ohio May 30th), Sprint (Pennsylvania July 12th), and Super (Toronto July 18th). I do not see that the Super in Toronto Canada is on my Activities List. I would like to get my Trifecta Medal. Does the Toronto Super count towards the Trifecta Medal? Thanks.

@Amado - The Toronto Super will have counted toward your trifecta. The trifecta medal for your first trifecta will be the combination of all three race pieces. You only receive a unique trifecta medal for each trifecta you complet beyond the first (i.e. x2, x3, x4, etc.) and the size of the medal increases with each trifecta completed. You should be able to claim the race through your Athlinks account and it will then be updated in the Spartan pages.

A couple of questions regarding this in your post..
"Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces! There are no single trifecta medals for any country. "

So does this mean when I finish my Trifecta in Dallas I will get Specific "Trifecta Medal" or will I just get one that says Beast & I have to "Buy" the plate that holds all 3 pieces?

Also, I know you give out T-shirts after we finish our race, will it be a "Beast" or a "Trifecta" or Both? This is my 1st Trifecta and I want to make sure I have ALL of my Gear for my Craziness at 48 that made me Do This lol. Thanks for your time! Tammy

@tammy - Spartan no longer issues the Trifecta medal for first time trifectas. if you complete your first trifecta with the Dallas Beast, you'll receive the standard Beast Medal and a beast wedge that you can piece together to create a trifecta medal. You can buy the plate that holds them from spartan or look up a different holder online. Once you complete a double or additional trifectas within a calendar year, Spartan issues special medals for that.

Are the rules about the calendar year set in stone? I am doing a beast next week (Oct 31st), possibly a sprint in March and the Super for sure in April. All three races in 5 months, any way that could qualify for the trifecta?

So In order to get the Solid Trifecta medal I have to complete more than 1 Trifecta in tge same Calendar year? Or on my next trifecta Next Year? Just making sure I am understanding your comment correctly and plan accordingly lol
