What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.
Racers that complete an Ultra Beast will be able to count that as a "Beast" for their Trifecta.
Racers that complete any stadium event, or Cornell College Classic, will be able to count that as a "Sprint" toward their Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

    Mihir,
Unfortunately, in order for us to keep track of people that earn their trifectas, we do need to have a clear start and end date to work from. Calendar year was the time period that made the most sense to our racers. I apologize if this is inconvenient for you.

    Hi Ryan!
Unfortunately, the trifecta for 2014 is calendar year ONLY. We haven't made any official decisions about 2015 medals yet, so I can't say whether they will still all fit together, etc. Sorry!

Hi Jennifer - sounds like there may be some confusion. If this is your first trifecta this year, there is no separate medal; your trifecta medal is made up of the three "wedges" you received at the end of each event.
If you have results on each individual event, your trifecta is all set!
If you want to view all of your results this year, the easiest way is "claim" your results via Athlinks and view all of your results in one place:

    Chesar,
You are incorrect. There are new medals for Spartan Race every year. The new wedge medals (and the absence of the single, round trifecta medal) were announced at the beginning of 2014, so that all 2014 racers would know what to expect. They were given out at our first race in 2014 and ever since for this year. You still get a trifecta medal, just in 2014 it is formed by the three pieces you earn that magnetize together to form the medal.
The 2013 trifecta medal has not been in production since late 2013, as we moved to a completely new set of medals. Also, as you've probably noticed in our recent email promotions, we've got new medals set up for 2015, so the 2014 medals will no longer be available. It's not a decision we make to disappoint our customers, but to keep it fresh, with new medals to collect each year.

    Hi Frank,
To clarify, if you finished your trifecta in Ottawa, we'd be happy to make sure you get your final piece of your trifecta medal. Please contact us (us@spartan.com) with the races you did, as well as a mailing address.

There is no special lanyard for the trifecta at this time. The three wedge pieces stick together via magnets, to form a larger Trifecta medal.
    Thanks!

    Chesar,
At no point in 2013 did Spartan Race promise that the same medal would be available in 2014. We have been changing the medals every year since our beginning, as many of our racers are medal collectors and like the incentive of collecting a new medal every year. You were not "duped", you simply made an assumption that was not correct. The article that you cite is speculation by a community member and should not be taken as fact on this situation.
I apologize that you are not satisfied with the medals you will be receiving this year. Unfortunately we can not and will not be providing a 2013 trifecta medal to 2014 finishers. I also can not provide additional incentive for racing, as the incentive to signing up and completing one of our races should be the satisfaction of completing it and personal accomplishment, rather than a medal.
If you would like to discuss this in further detail, please email us directly. Thank you!

Why does only one lap per day, per event count toward my double trifecta?

    Hi Robin,
As noted in the article above, Stadium Races count as a Sprint towards your trifecta. Additionally, Trifecta is Calendar Year only - you must complete all three distances in one calendar year.

@Ryan - I think the official rule is that only one of each race type counts toward the trifecta per day. Although I would be interested in knowing what would happen if someone completed the Ultra Beast and then the Beast right after... :)

I've seen pics of a guy with a 15x huge Trifecta medal (among others). How is this possible when there's less than a half dozen Beast/Ultra Beast events going on in a year within all of North America? I thought only one lap per event per day counts towards total.

Aja, my brother and I are wanting to complete a double trifeca this coming race year. The sprint in my area (Carolina) takes place on both Saturday and Sunday (4/11 and 4/12). If I register separately for both days and and complete the race on both days, can I count both of these finishes towards my double trifeca?

So I just got hooked on Spartan Races but it's nearly the end of the year. I did a stadium sprint in August, signed up for a Super in October but cannot find a Beast before the end of the calendar year. If I do a beast in early 2015, that will not count as completing a trifecta? Will the medals in 2015 be different so that I wouldn't be able to piece all 3 parts together?

Frederika and Ryan, The SoCal Makeup dates WILL count toward BOTH the 2014 and 2015 trifecta season. You can see full details on this here:

How do you go about getting a trifecta shirt? I went to merch tent this weekend upon completing the beast at Temecula and they informed me it would be online but I cannot seem to find it.

I believe that the Ultra Beast also counts as a Beast Race toward the Trifecta.

If you complete only 1 lap of the Ultrabeast does it count as a beast for double/triple trifecta purposes?

If you completed the beast in temecula(even though it was cut short), does it still count towards your trifecta as completely a beast? Or did it not qualify?

    Hi Mike,
Great question! What you're referring to is our POINTS season. The POINTS season is what determined our top Elite Athletes, etc. and culminates in the World Championship Race in VT in September (more on this here: https://spartanrace.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202641333-Spartan-Point-Series-and-Ranking).

TRIFECTA status is entirely different and based on CALENDAR year. Trifecta status is for the racer looking to complete all three distances and earn their Trifecta medal, etc.

@Erwilcox3 - If you complete the Ultrabeast it will count as a beast toward your trifecta count.

@Nadia Budiman - A Sprint on the Saturday and another on Sunday would count as the requisite x2 Sprints needed for your x2 trifecta medal. I'm not clear on your second question though. If you have x2 Sprint, x2 Super, and x2 Beast and complete two Sprints on the Dec. 5/6 weekend, you would still require an additional x2 Supers and x2 beast in order to qualify for the x3 trifecta and x4 trifecta. The special trifecta medals are handed out starting at x2 trifecta.

@Ryan, Luke is correct - If you run Super Elite and Super Open, you would receive two finisher medals, but only ONE lap, per day counts toward the trifecta. We will take your best lap, but still only one will count.

@Luke, UB counts as a Beast for trifecta purposes (assuming someone finishes the whole thing. We don't count a 1-lap, incomplete UB, as a beast). So, if someone did the UB, then went around again for the Beast... it'd pretty much be (from a trifecta perspective) the same as doing two Beasts. Great question though! I've yet to see this happen. :-)

@mitchell - spartan will recognize it as a trifecta if its within the same year.

@tammy - spartan offers the Solid Trifecta medals to anyone that has completed multiple trifectas within the same year. I completed my first trifecta in 2014 but Spartan does not offer a medal single trifectas anymore.

I completed 2 trifectas this year so i qualify for the 2x trifecta medal.

    Hi,
Just a quick question. (i hope it hasn't already been asked.)

Are the medals for 2015 going to be one medal or do you get one medal for finishing and a piece for the trifecta?

They would both count. You just can't do two of the same distances on the same day.

Do you count 1 Sprint on Saturday and 1 Sprint on Sunday as 2 Sprint to complete 2x trifecta? By Nov I will already have 2 Trifecta, 2 Beast & 2 Super. Can I do Sprint LA on Satuday Dec 5 & Sunday Dec 6 to complete my 3x Trifecta and 4x Trifecta? And get the "4x Trifecta" special medal? Thanks

    Hi all!

@Erwilcox3: No, If you FINISH the UB, it counts as a beast for trifecta purposes, but if you DNF (or only one lap), it's a DNF and doesn't count anything toward your trifecta.

@Nadia, Luke is correct! 1 lap, per day, can count toward your trifecta. So, if you do a Sprint on Saturday and a Sprint on Sunday, that's two sprints toward your trifecta count.

@Luke, thanks for the compliment! We love our medals as much as our racers do, and are always trying to find ways to make them more awesome! Look for some AWESOME new developments for 2016....

@rseelochan, I'm sorry we didn't have that double trifecta ready for you, in VT! shoot an email to us@spartan.com (or submit a request on the bottom of this page) and we'll take care of you!

I understand that the issue has to do with timing and recording finish times. What if I were to register and PAY for two laps in one day? Wouldn't that get me two timing chips, and register as two races? Then there would be no conflict regarding the "top time." I'm simply looking for a work-around until the issue is resolved on the timing system side.

I never said Spartan promised anything and no, I did not make any assumption. If anything, I presumed we would receive it because of images and feedback from past races and because of the lack of updates and information on these "new medals" when I made my purchase in November 2013, hence my reiteration of false advertisement. You change the medals every year, but this year, you're simply taking it away! There's no "new medal" this year, just pieces! I would love to e-mail you directly, but we all know how that's going to work as I've sent e-mails before which have not been responded to. "Suum cuique" regarding the incentive; that's something each person creates for him/herself and is entitled to that. And I know that article is speculation, I never said it was a fact - only how it seems. Thanks for trying.

@tammy - if you've completed 1 trifecta in 2015, if you can complete one more in 2015, you'll earn a 2x medal. if you complete one in 2015 and 1 in 2016, you would not get a 2x medal because it needs to be within the same year.
