What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.

Stadium Sprints do count as a "Sprint" towards the Trifecta.

Racers that complete an Ultra Beast will be able to count that as a "Beast" for their Trifecta. However, you must complete the entire Ultra Beast for it to count. Only completing half will not result in a "Beast" towards your Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

    Chesar,
At no point in 2013 did Spartan Race promise that the same medal would be available in 2014. We have been changing the medals every year since our beginning, as many of our racers are medal collectors and like the incentive of collecting a new medal every year. You were not "duped", you simply made an assumption that was not correct. The article that you cite is speculation by a community member and should not be taken as fact on this situation.
I apologize that you are not satisfied with the medals you will be receiving this year. Unfortunately we can not and will not be providing a 2013 trifecta medal to 2014 finishers. I also can not provide additional incentive for racing, as the incentive to signing up and completing one of our races should be the satisfaction of completing it and personal accomplishment, rather than a medal.
If you would like to discuss this in further detail, please email us directly. Thank you!

I never said Spartan promised anything and no, I did not make any assumption. If anything, I presumed we would receive it because of images and feedback from past races and because of the lack of updates and information on these "new medals" when I made my purchase in November 2013, hence my reiteration of false advertisement. You change the medals every year, but this year, you're simply taking it away! There's no "new medal" this year, just pieces! I would love to e-mail you directly, but we all know how that's going to work as I've sent e-mails before which have not been responded to. "Suum cuique" regarding the incentive; that's something each person creates for him/herself and is entitled to that. And I know that article is speculation, I never said it was a fact - only how it seems. Thanks for trying.

Aja, You replied to a question about multi-trifectas. According to you, 2X, 3X, etc are given to Spartans who complete the multi's in one calendar year. I did not pick up my 2X in Sacramento based on this, but I know people who were given a 2X that took them 2 years to complete. So what is the rule? Is it in writing anywhere?

    Hi Ryan,
2x, 3x, etc. trifecta medals are Calendar year only. If anyone was given a 2x that took them two years to complete, it was given in error, absolutely.
From our above article: "A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes on of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only 1 lap per day per event will count towards this accomplishment. "

I got a question, if I ran the SoCal beast on jan. 17 2015 and do the sprint and super the following week, do I get the trifecta medal or do I have to do three separate events and in the order of sprint, super, beast

    Edward,
The rescheduled SoCal beast will count as the first event in the 2015 trifecta series (as well as the LASt event of 2014). So - Yes! If you do your three races in socal in those two weekends, you will absolutely earn your 2015 trifecta medal!

Aja, my brother and I are wanting to complete a double trifeca this coming race year. The sprint in my area (Carolina) takes place on both Saturday and Sunday (4/11 and 4/12). If I register separately for both days and and complete the race on both days, can I count both of these finishes towards my double trifeca?

They would both count. You just can't do two of the same distances on the same day.

    Matias,
Luke is correct! As long as you do the sprint on different days (Saturday and Sunday), it would count as two sprints toward your trifecta. You can not race multiple laps in the SAME DAY (say, two laps on Saturday) and have it count toward your trifecta.

So just to clarify, if results were posted on the spartan race results for your time/bib/overall/etc., You did in fact complete a full beast at Vail Lake?

Do you have to run/get the medals in order during the year or can you run the races out of order and still qualify for the trifecta?

William, you do not need to complete the races in order to qualify for the trifecta. Three different distances completed in one calendar year.

There are not enough Beast races on the West coast for 2015! So far there are plenty of Sprints, 4 Supers and only 2 Beasts....

    Hi,
Just a quick question. (i hope it hasn't already been asked.)

Are the medals for 2015 going to be one medal or do you get one medal for finishing and a piece for the trifecta?

    Hey John!
The medals for 2015 will be a new design, but you will still receive a round medal plus a piece of your trifecta (the wedge piece).

    Hi Kimmie!
If you sign up for 2 sprints, 2 supers and 2 beasts in 2015 you would get individual medals for all of those events, AND you would be eligible to receive the special double (2x) trifecta medal.

To become a Tri member do I have to do all 3 distances in order (Sprint to Super to Beast) or in any order as long as I do them?

Ajay - Trying to read into the comment on the trifecta wedges/medals above - are the wedges the same size/shape as last year? Trying to figure out if I can re-use a mounting solution or buy the frame that's on the Spartan Gear shop, or if there'll be something new coming.

Rona H - Any order, as long as it's within the same year, is a Trifecta. The Beasts tend to be clustered in time more than the Sprints - it would be hard to do them in order and get multiple Trifectas in the same year.

NiCE!!! It's not confusing anymore! Before, the calendar year started and ended with the South Carolina Spartan I believe. Having it start and end in the same year is MUCH better! I do have one question though.
Do you still award a single piece medal for a trifecta? Or is that now 2x and 3x?

What is the logic behind the "one lap per day" for the trifecta? I struggle to see the logic of the limitation, especially when it comes to the Sprint distance.

    Travis,
Unfortunately, the "one lap per day" rule for the trifecta is due to a limitation in our Timing System. In order for us to accurately track, rank and time our racers, we can only track the their top time for the day, toward the trifecta. You can run multiple laps per day, but only the best (fastest) one will be tracked for trifecta purposes.
We're looking at making an enhancement to eventually allow multiple laps per day, but for this season, the one lap per day rule stands.
