What is the Spartan Trifecta? How do I earn it?

A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes one of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast (or Ultra) - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world. You can earn multiple Trifectas in a single year, however only one lap per day, per event will count toward this accomplishment.
(If you run in both the Elite and Open series, still only ONE run through the course, per day, per event will count towards a trifecta.)

The Hurricane heat does not count toward a Trifecta.

Stadium Sprints do count as a "Sprint" towards the Trifecta.

The entire Ultra course needs to be completed for it to count. Only completing half does not result in a "Beast" towards your Trifecta.

You can run the races in any order, the sprint does not need to be the first event.

There is nothing special that you will need to do to "claim" a trifecta medal, as you will earn the three pieces of it, as you complete your races during the season. Once you have your third piece, the medals will fit together to complete one big Trifecta medal. If you are earning your 2x, 3x, etc. Trifecta medal, they are available on site at the event. Please complete your race, then see our results tent and/or our announcer booth to be presented with your multi-Trifecta medal.

Trifecta merchandise (shirts, medal holders, etc.) will be available for sale at the merchandise tent at all events, but no additional merchandise, other than medal pieces, will be provided to Trifecta finishers.

Please note: Starting in 2015 all races in the world will award the Trifecta medal pieces. There are no single trifecta medals for any country.

*You do not need the trifecta pass to earn the Spartan Trifecta.

    They just know...
They keep track of your registration and completed races and there is usually a booth near (after) the finish line that verifies your completion and rewards you with the trifecta medal.

The only one lap per day rule is an absolute joke.  If you are mentally and physically strong enough to handle two or more laps in a day you should be rewarded for it.  I am going for my double trifecta this year and was going to have an issue finding two different Supers to do because Spartan does not offer enough of Supers in New England and the Northeast (hint, hint) so I did two laps last Saturday because on Sunday I had a prior family commitment.

Spartan should make this BS rule WAY more readily available when you go to buy an Annual Pass.  On the Annual Pass page it right now advertises "Earn as many Trifectas as you want" and the waiver at checkout makes no mention of one lap per day either.  I actually emailed the Spartan Help Desk asking why I couldn't sign up for two laps in one day online and they told me that I could sign up for a second lap that day in person and made no mention that a second lap would not be counted.

I gave you my money for two laps, you have my time for two laps, you have my actual race photos from both laps, I finished both laps, why do they both not count?  Honor my two laps for what they are, a dedication to Spartan races.

I will earn my second trifecta this year in Valencia, Spain. I know most of the international races have an international medal/ribbon. Will I also get an international version of my trifecta medal? Will I be able to pick up my trifecta medal at the race or will it be mailed to me?

To get the trifecta, does each piece need to be earned at separate events, or would doing the sprint on Saturday and the super on Sunday both count towards it?

There are not enough Beast races on the West coast for 2015! So far there are plenty of Sprints, 4 Supers and only 2 Beasts....

Are the rules about the calendar year set in stone? I am doing a beast next week (Oct 31st), possibly a sprint in March and the Super for sure in April. All three races in 5 months, any way that could qualify for the trifecta?

Say I run the boston super on saturday, then run it again on sunday, will those both count towards the double trifecta?

Hi Reymart, per the article above:
"A member of the Spartan Trifecta Tribe finishes on of each Spartan distance - Sprint, Super and Beast - in a calendar year (January 1st - December 31st), anywhere in the world."
So, if you do the Sprint in August, you have until December 31 to do a Super and a Beast to finish your Trifecta!

Has anything changed for Spartan Canada as far as Trifectas are concerned? I'm looking at maybe running my sprint in Canada, but wanted to know if I'll still have to go through the process of requesting a wedge.

This is a follow up to my request on May 4. Please let me know if running an Elite Super and an Open Super in the same day will count toward a double trifecta. I've heard different stories from Spartan Race. Thank you.

I have 2 questions. I read all of the posts on here but did not find anything on what I want to know. I keep reading about the 3 pieces "fit together" to make a bigger medal. I'm sure they'll fit together. My first question is, is there anything being given to us to hold all 3 pieces together? or do the medals somehow connect to each other and stay in tack?

My second question is, I did my Spartan Sprint using 1 email account and I'm going to do the Spartan Beast in Ottawa with a different email. Is Spartan going to keep track of those 2 races towards my trifecta or is there something special I have to do so you guys can track?

    Thank you.

So In order to get the Solid Trifecta medal I have to complete more than 1 Trifecta in tge same Calendar year? Or on my next trifecta Next Year? Just making sure I am understanding your comment correctly and plan accordingly lol

    Hi Andrew,
A calendar year is correct for the Trifecta. We have a huge number of people that complete 1-7x trifecta's last year... and a few that completed all the way to 15x trifectas. As a tip, most of those people try and take advantage of our multi-day events to maximize their races. So, they might race on Saturday, then the next race on Sunday.
We've added quite a lot of new races to our calendar this year, so you might find that you are able to squeeze in a trifecta near you, after all.

Where are you located? Shoot an email over to Customer Service (us@spartan.com) and we can help you figure out some possible trifectas with the least travelling!

    Thanks for your response Aja,

I'm a seasons pass holder trying to save myself money on another long trip down to NJ, my results both show up on chronotrack and I put in the mileage on the course so why wouldn't they count it as good toward the double trifecta?

Not trying to be a pain just trying to wrap my head around it.
    Thanks again!

    Hi, Aja!
I understand that 2014 racers won't be awarded a separate Trifecta medal. I would like to let you know my concerns: In 2013, I decided to train and pursue this specific medal and I set it as my goal. Surely, you can understand how disheartening it feels to fail at accomplishing something, so you must understand - I need this medal. This isn't feedback or a simple expression of my concern as previously stated, rather this is a request that I receive my medal after the event race this Saturday, at the Dallas Beast. I'm traveling all the way from New Jersey to pursue this medal, and it has been established as my goal since 2013. I'm not sure who changed the rules or what caused this change, but regardless, I am requesting I still receive my medal after the completion of the race, even if it has to be mailed to my home address afterwards. There has been a lot of effort, hard work, determination and money put into these races, and I expect to reach this goal. Kindly advise how this shall be handled.

    THANK YOU

What is the logic behind the "one lap per day" for the trifecta? I struggle to see the logic of the limitation, especially when it comes to the Sprint distance.

Hey John! You do not have to run the three distances in any particular order - just in the same calendar year. You do get a trifecta wedge piece by competing in ANY heat (open, elite, or competitive).

I do have a related question. Is it possible to change race types on the day of the race? For instance, I am currently registered in the Vermont Sprint, but if I decided to change to the Ultra Beast the morning of the race, would this be possible? Right now I don't think I could complete the Beast on Saturday and then the Ultra Beast the next day, but if I wake up and feel ever so possessed to change to the Ultra Beast, would this be possible?

I ran the Miami Super Spartan a couple years ago... and I didn't realize I should have gotten the piece of medal. Still, I'm planning to do the three distances this same year, can't wait to complete the Trifecta!!

I for one will always be disappointed with the calendar date rule. My first Spartan race was the World Championship Beast September 2013. At that time it was a full year from THAT date to complete Trifecta. I signed up for Sprint in Amesbury for late spring 2014 and waited and waited and waited for the Boston Super to come BEFORE the Sept 2014 deadline....you know the one you guys announced and kept everyone waiting and hanging around for!? Total bull. Anyway....that never came. I had decided that I would go to NJ to get the Super done BUT then I was made aware that the rules had changed. So my WC BEAST...was for nothing. For my first Spartan that was brutal and I am proud of that medal. But the fact that I couldn't complete the trifecta as advertised in 2013 was a HUGE disappointment.

So regardless of what Spartan Race says...I don't need a special medal NOR do I (like many others I know) have that kind of money to blow in one calendar year to receive a medal. So in my mind and in my wallet....I completed the Trifecta.

I vote ....go back to the old rules.
Its fair to those who do their first or even second race in the fall but can't finish their 3rd by the end of year without shelling a ton of money to travel somewhere just for the medal. Thats just not cool. But I do get the business tactic behind. Brilliant.
Unfortunately, it leaves a bad taste in some participants mouths once they figure it out.

On a positive note and to finish upbeat, I am a BIG fan of what Spartan Races has done and provides. Very well put together, great races with cool obstacles that are actually challenging. I'm proud to say I've done all 3 and enjoyed each one (well the WC Beast was ridiculously brutal....but man I'm most proud of that one).

    My 2 cents...

Coastal - Stadium Sprints DO count as a "sprint" toward your Trifecta. I apologize for the confusion - it looks like that was a rumor that came out of our Australian partners, but it is NOT correct. ALL Stadium sprints WILL count as sprints toward a trifecta.

Do 2014 and 2015 medals truly not fit together?

I've been convinced to do a beast next month and following it with a super and then sprint in 2016. Yes, I'm doing it completely backwards of what a sane person would do, but that's just how the scheduling worked out.

Am I truly out of luck of fitting a trifecta medal together without doing another beast in 2016 for a full calendar year?

    What a bummer.

    Hi Chris!
That's correct. Once you complete your race, just stop by the results tent, they'll do some verification and get you your hard-earned medal!

Aja, I have asked before but didn't get a response. I've heard if I run Super Elite and Super Open in one day, that can count as 2 Supers for the trifecta. Is this correct?

Hello, I just finished my Trifecta and didn't know to ask for the small trifecta medal I am reading about. How can I go about getting this? Also, where on the spartan page can I find my results from all 3 races to see the trifecta went through?
